Nintendo has officially announced the Nintendo Switch 2 for 2025. The console retains the hybrid design and features a larger screen as well as redesigned Joy-Con controllers that attach magnetically. It is also backward compatible, meaning existing Nintendo Switch games can still be played.

For Pokémon fans, this means that current titles like "Pokémon Crimson and Purple" will be playable on the new hardware. Furthermore, these games could benefit from the improved hardware and experience performance enhancements.

A new game, "Pokémon Legends: ZA," has already been announced for 2025 and will be set in the Kalos region. It is expected to be available on both the original Switch and the Switch 2.

Rumours also suggest that Game Freak is working on the tenth generation of Pokémon games, which could potentially be released simultaneously for the current Switch and the Switch 2.

Further details about the Nintendo Switch 2 and the game lineup are expected to be revealed in a Nintendo Direct presentation on April 2, 2025.
